The Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat is a Friday vow in honour of Maa Vaibhav Lakshmi, the form of Goddess Lakshmi who is worshipped for vaibhav: splendour, prosperity and well-being in the home. Devotees, most often married women but also men and unmarried girls, take a resolve (sankalp) to keep the fast on 11 or 21 Fridays, worship the goddess in the evening with a kalash, a gold or silver ornament and the Shri Yantra, read the vrat katha and sing the aarti.
The vow is begun on a Friday of Shukla Paksha, the bright fortnight of the moon. On the last Friday the devotee performs the udyapan and, by tradition, gifts copies of the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat Katha to other women so that the vow spreads to more homes.
